PC Expert?
I lost my laptop a few days ago and a new might take some time to deliver so i was planning to upgrade my really old desktop.
Spec:
Ram- 4 GB DDR 2 [Only 2 slots]
Processor- Intel Pentium D CPU 2.66 GHz
OS- Windows 7 Ultimate 32 Bit. [Windows rating -3.3]
Motherboard- Asus P5KPL AM/PS
Graphic Card- Nvidia Ge-force 8400 GS 64 Bit 512 MB ram
I would love to get an advice for an upgrade. I used to play a lot of games on my old laptop which i lost and it used to run games on recommended settings. I would like to upgrade my processor to at least an i3 or AMD 3.6 GHz AM3 or something like that.
Thank you

Re: PC Expert?
Well, it's cheaper to buy a new desktop pc than upgrading that one.
Because, your mobo can't support i3 processors so it's pretty old.
If you want i3 processor, then you need to change your mobo, which means that you also need to change your RAM memory to DDR3. Playing newer games means you need to change graphics card too, so....
And it'll be more expensive than buying a new case with new components.

Re: PC Expert?
Well I see your point but as i said I am getting a new laptop and getting a new PC would be out of the question! So i looked into the matter and upgrading it is costing me about Rs. 11,000/- (220$) where as a new PC (from a company like dell or lenovo) would cost about Rs. 30,000/- +(550$) I'm CONFUSED!
Re: PC Expert?
Then don't even try to upgrade that PC. It'll be a waste of money.
You can just reinstall OS to make it look like a new. It'll be good enough.
I mean, if you're getting new and good laptop then what's the point of upgrading old PC which cannot be upgraded.

There's no upgrade, there's just making a new pc xD.
If you want a list of components, tell me,just when Ivy came out, maybe you'll get something nice.

Re: PC Expert?
The thing is, that laptop would be used mostly for movies and school work and nothing else So i just shifted back from my hostel and i saw that piece of junk. As i have a month of free time i thought i would upgrade it or as you said build a new PC.So i checked it out and i guess i can remove everything from the cabinet and put a new motherboard, processor and the ram.Ronnin wrote:Then don't even try to upgrade that PC. Ps- I don't even think my parents would buy me a new rig as i already have an xbox but it is in my hostel

Re: PC Expert?
And what's the difference between intel core 2 duo E7500 and i3-2100T?
Or should i look for G620 or G630?

Re: PC Expert?
I have i3-2100 3.10GHz and must say that it's great processor. Especially for games.
But if you want to play games like Sleeping Dogs and other new games, you first need good graphic card. Only processor can't do anything, because graphic card is the component which is essential for games.
So, as I already said, you do need to change motherboard, then processor and graphic card, and probably RAM memory.
I recommend i3-2100 and some budget graphic cards like HD6670 GDDR5 because it can run newer games on medium, maybe even high setting, and it's cheap.
For motherboard I can recommend cheap but good MSI H61M-P23 (B3) which I'm using too.

Re: PC Expert?
Hi I'm sorry to disturb you guys again but i got a new laptop so i wont be needing to upgrade my rig but can anyone tell me which graphic card would work with this laptop -
Intel 3rd Gen Core i5-3317U (1.7 GHz, 3MB L3 Cache)
Windows 8
4G (1*4GB) DDR3 1600 MHz
1TB HDD + 24Gb SSD
Integrated Graphics
and whats the best graphic card for my current rig (if i want to upgrade it in the near future) the specs are on the first post. (i don't want to change mobo/processor but just the graphic card)
This is what the asus site says-
P5KPL-AM/PS with Intel G31 chipset inside supports Intel Quad-core CPU and features 1600(OC)/1333/1066/800MHz FSB, PCI Express x 16, Serial ATA interface, high performance integrated graphics engine, dual-channel DDR2 1066(O.C.)/800/667 memory, and 6 Channel HD Audio CODEC. Users can experience faster graphics performance. P5KPL-AM/PS is the most affordable all-in-one solution platform for Intel Core2 Processor with Intel G31 chipset inside
Thank you

Re: PC Expert?
For your pc at least an Ati Radeon Hd 5670,if you want to play something at 1024x768 or a GT 440 from Nvidia.
For your laptop(if it supports), maybe gt 540m.
